History
In 2018, our team took part in the “Drevolution” festival. There we created the “Lesom” object. The project proposes an alternative path: from tree to tree, it leads a person through an ancient forest up to the canopy, following winding trails, and culminates in a house with a fire pit offering a beautiful view of the sunset.
This search for an alternative path marked the beginning of our story. The project was included in the Top 20 best small-scale architectural works in the world according to ArchDaily — a significant milestone for us.
That was when we decided to become the architectural bureau Sozonych.
The name was also chosen there. We were staying at the “Terem Astashovo” hotel. The building was constructed in the 19th century by a merchant born in Astashovo, who later moved to Saint Petersburg, became wealthy, and returned to develop his native village.
We ourselves moved to Saint Petersburg from the regions. This philosophy resonated with us, as did the search for Russian identity reflected in the architecture of the wooden manor. The merchant’s name was Sazon Sazonovich, and we decided to preserve the local atmosphere as much as possible, choosing a pronunciation aligned with the regional Vologda accent — “Sozonych.”
