“School Slope” Park
Public Space
Murino, Leningrad Oblast
The pedestrian street leading to the bridge over the Okhta River, connecting Western and Eastern Murino, is actively used by residents on a daily basis. Children also follow this route on their way from home to school, which is why the unnamed street has informally become known as “Shkolny Spusk” (School Slope).
The project proposes an alternative route for slow, leisurely walks, running parallel to the main transit corridor. Along the way, thematic activity areas are introduced for different user groups. The programmatic content of the space was defined through participatory design sessions with residents of Murino.
Playground for Children Aged 0–3
The first stop along the route from Western to Eastern Murino is a playground for the youngest children. Designed for ages 0–3, the area offers sand play, a low slide, and small-scale landforms to support early childhood development.
Rest Area and Drawing Zone
Further along the route is a zone for rest and social interaction. From the benches, visitors can observe a nearby free-creative play area for children, surfaced with smooth concrete. Here, children are given independence while still remaining within sight of adults. Equipped with chalk, they can invent their own games or create new characters directly on the surface.
Playground for Children Aged 4–10
For older children, a higher landform is introduced, featuring a slide, climbing wall, and integrated crawl-through elements. Fine gravel is used as a shock-absorbing surface material. While parents and older visitors wait for children to play, they can make use of outdoor fitness equipment and spend their time actively.
Food Court
A dedicated area for temporary food truck placement is introduced along the transit route. Here, visitors can take a break at a large communal table, enjoy a meal during their walk, meet neighbors, play board games, or simply spend time in conversation outdoors.
Youth Recreation Area
A dedicated enclosed area provides young people with their own place within the urban environment. A high fence serves its primary function during ball games, while also acting as a sense of enclosure and shelter for teenagers.
The neutral, monochrome background and carefully considered proportions of the space also make it an ideal setting for filming social media videos and short-form content.
