Master Plan for the Southern River Port Waterfront
Moscow
The Southern River Port is the largest cargo river port in Moscow, located at the boundary between the Pechatniki District and Nagatinsky Zaton along the Moskva River. The area is currently undergoing active redevelopment, which necessitates new approaches to the use of its waterfront and water area.
New construction along the left bank of the Moskva River introduces residential and mixed-use development with a total area of approximately 2.85 million m². The proximity of housing to the water represents a valuable resource that, beyond its aesthetic qualities, can also activate the site functionally. The Southern River Port water area is considered a potential space for the development of transport infrastructure as well as recreational and leisure functions.
The presence of multiple stakeholders requires a comprehensive approach to establish a unified development strategy for the water area, ensuring usability for all future users. As water-based activity increases, it becomes essential to ensure navigational safety and define dedicated zones for different types of vessels.
The development of a waterfront masterplan provides an integrated framework for water resource management and serves as a foundation for future decision-making regarding the site’s transformation.
The area is already in an active phase of development.
The preparation of a masterplan makes it possible to take a comprehensive view of the process and structure the creation of new infrastructure within the water area, ensuring a balanced distribution of essential functions.
